A certain brother, who was also an archer, gave him criticism over that hobby. John apparently asked the man if he kept his bow strung all the time. The man replied, no, because the unrelieved tension was not good for the bow and string. John said that the same truth applied to the life of the body and soul. Apocryphal, I know, but I like such stories. I don't particularly like pigeons, but I do other stuff, eh.
